Background Pictures

Could some kind person tell me the most reliable, least memory consuming
format for a picture inserted as a background? I am finding some that I am
using are unreliable - sometimes they open; and sometimes they don't.

Are you talking about powerpoint running out of memory or 'disk space'?

Perhaps it may help to understand what's formats (JPG, PNG) good and what's not so good (TIF, BMP).

But with all the above formats....you still need to thing about PIXELS. So have a read of this
