I'd start with Task Manager and look for high CPU utilisation. Better still
download Process Explorer
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/ProcessExplorer.mspx)

If nothing is showing high CPU usage then disc usage is the next thing to
look for. Process Monitor is my favourite utility for this
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/processmonitor.mspx)

Marsha, Marsha, Marsha....look for a program called filemon.exe it will show
you what is running.

Where would I find this filemon.exe at? I am having trouble locating it. I
did a search on Google...found where XP uses Process Monitor and I can't
even find that. More help needed.
