Ok guys silly question but I am running Vista Home Premium on a 300gig hard
drive and would like to know can I back up Vista to an external hard drive
so incase of a belly up in the future I can recover my OS and all my
programs and stuff. I am also looking at backing it up every couple of
weeks will I be able to do that. Sorry to ask new to all this stuff.

Dave

As long as the external drive is in NTFS format it's no problem. In the
Backup and Restore Center you can set automatic backups to daily, weekly or
monthly.

Also make sure System Restore is activated.

does this make a backup of the whole OS or just my files as I prefer to make
a backup of the whole OS so if I loose the drive I can restore the whole
system

Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore is included with Windows Vista
Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Vista Ultimate not Home
Premium.

You should go through the process of creating recovery discs.

I see any advise on how to do that

cheers
