restore one single file?

I have Vista Home Premium.
I have been using Microsoft Backup & Restore for a few weeks.
I am backing up to an external hard drive.
My two questions are:
(1) Can I restore a single file?
(2) Or must I restore everything to get that one file?

Charles.

Not with Vista. You need to restore the complete file folder that the file rests
in. The link that Bill posted works with Windows 9X and is marked as such but not
with Vista and Win 7.
