back up hard drive recognition

Windows XP will not recognize a back up hard drive which
was previously used in a windows 95 machine. Disk manager
shows it is installed, but it does not show in "my
computer".

You need to partition and format it in Windows XP.

The disk MUST be set up with a partition and formatted to be viewable
in 'My Computer'.
If it is already formatted etc, then load up Disk Management console
to assign a drive letter.
