On 'Show Connections' I keep getting a new
connection 'Axis' and this eventually starts using my
internal modem ( which I only use for Faxes ) and
obviously at a cost to me.
I have deleted this 'Axis' but it still reappears when I
switch on my machine. I have also made the internal modem
non functional on a temporary basis.

I am using broadband on a daily basis so the internal
modem is not always necessary.

Adawre,AVG and Zone Alarm report no apparent viruses etc
and I have tried TREND direct - this also reporting no
viruses

HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS COSTLY 'AXIX'

Thanks

What version of AdAware? Make sure it's 6.81 and you have updated it before
scanning. Also try running Spybot Search & Destroy - it often finds things
that adaware doesn't, and vice versa. One or the other should find the
dialer that's been installed...

Do you have your firewall enabled on your network connection to the
broadband router? Run Windows Update regularly, etc etc etc?
