.avi files freezing

I have downloaded some .avi video clips into WMM. When I play them back on
the timeline to preview it freezes up or goes really slow. Can I assume that
after I burn the video to a DVD it wont do that? If not, how can I fix?

downloaded avi clips sounds ike they are mostly likely compressed avi files
like divx or xvid. You'll need to find out what sort of file they are, use
avicodec linked to here

then use a converter to change them to wmv files.

Fantastic! It worked. Thank you! The wmv file seems to look a bit
pixelated (sp?) in playback. Any advice?

The file is possibly only small for web use, maybe 320x240 in size, so when
you stretch it to fit std tv size, 720x480 or 576 then it will become
pixelated, there is nothing you can do about that apart from keeping it
small in size.
