AVG update

Has anyone else noticed this. I haven't noticed an automatic update
started in the past couple of days.

When I go to do a manual update, it returns the message saying that my
files are all up to day and no
download is needed. That seems unusual for AVG not to have a daily
update.

Same here, Got a priority update on switching on.

You may have to un-install re-install and see if that works for you.

I've used this program for five years or more and never had a problem with it.

I've downloaded two update (.bin) files from there, and saved to the
desktop.

How do you tell AVG to accept the update files?

Click on
1) AVG tray icon
2) "Check for Updates"
3) "Folder"

I have the free version of AVG on two computers (desktop and laptop).

I've noticed I get two methods of downloads: the fast line (cable) on the
desktop gets a very small-sized update, <20 kb or so, and comes down in a
second or two.

The poor laptop, although three times the processor speed of the desktop,
takes forever as it is on dial-up and the file sizes are often larger -
1500 kb. Don't know why there is such a file size difference?

Any ideas as to how to get the laptop to get the smaller-sized updates than
the far larger *.bin ones than the desktop? Maybe the desktop is receiving
smaller feeds while online?

Thanks. I had the update configured for "Do not ask for update source". So
it tries to get update from the internet (only), without asking me if I have
the downloaded files.

Anyway, internet updates have proved fruitless for nearly a week. I don't
know why not ... there've been several update files at the Grisoft web site
at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/24/lng/us/tpl/v5 over the past few days.

So I surfed to http://free.grisoft.com/doc/24/lng/us/tpl/v5 and downloaded
u7avi6858o.bin The web site gives a Jan 2 date for that file. I saved it
to the desktop.

Then I unchecked the "Do not ask for update source" box, and selected
"Folder", and chose "Desktop".

It says "No new update files could be found at the selected location".

Wait a minute! Something is goofed up. But I don't know what!

I use v. 7.0.338 and the manual procedure works fine here. I always
download into my default download folder, which is in fact a memory
stick, and then follow the procedure I outlined in my previous msg.

Can't tell you what might be causing your difficulty, but it's a simple
matter to uninstall, then reinstall with a fresh install .exe and update
from there.

I noticed something which may have the same cause.
I told AVG to update and it connected to its server and downloaded
update files in may be 2 seconds.
10 seconds later I switched off the program, run it again and looked for
an update: I found that a much bigger update was available!
May be they updated it in that very moment, but I will test it again in
the next days.
