AVG Sucks.

Please try the follwing instructions:

A. AntiVir
1. start AntiVir via the Start menu
2. Options/Configuration/Internet Updater
3. tick "Allow automatic internet update downloads" (default?)
4. OK
5. close AntiVir

B. AntiVir Scheduler
1. start AntiVir Scheduler via the Start menu
2. click on "Insert" (blue cross)
3. click on tab "Internet Update"
4. click on button "Schedule"

an example for how to program:
5. Frequency: "Daily" or "Workday"
6. Time: set to 10:00 or 11:00 or 12:00 or ...............
(click on hours and minutes seperately)
7. OK
8. OK
Repeat this procedure for every time you want the program to check for
updates.
On the scheduled time AntiVir requests permission to check for updates.

I have now a schedule made for 09:59, 10:59, .......... 23:59,
alternating Workday and Daily (= including Saturday and Sunday).
That provides an hourly check for updates (usually twice per day).

Because I have NOD32 installed as my prime AV program,
I have AntiVir Guard deactivated, but AntiVir is now available
as a "second opinion" scanner.

I will keep AntiVir installed for some weeks,
just in case you have more questions.

(Be my guest, I feel honoured.)

;-)

P.S. lurking in this newsgroup, I have learned:
1. NOD32 is an excellent AV program, I bought it to replace Norton.
(I had never heard of NOD32, before reading in this newsgroup)
2. It is not unwise to have a second AV program available
as a "second opinion" scanner (AntiVir is a very good candidate).
(I learned about AntiVir (free), while lurking in German security
newsgroups.)

I am sick and tired of you peole telling that AVG is a good AV
software...it is NOT.

AVG sucks. Big Time.
snip...

I agree...you don't have to convince me of that. I think some are just in
denial just because it's free, or haven't seen it miss it's mark yet.

Quite enough to demonstrate your competence. AVG is well regarded,
widely
used and effective. Go ask in the NG microsoft.public.security

??

I'm not sure why I should go ask anyone... I used AVG for a couple of years,
until I discovered Avast. Or rather until a worm discovered some
AVG-protected machines.

AVG is better than some, and is certainly better than no AV cover. Not my
first choice, but better the latest free AVG than a non-updated OEM version
of Norton 2003.

Voor een lurker weet je heel goed waar de klepel hangt.
Thnx voor het gebruik van je uitleg.

AVG tends NOT to miss the mark.

I sure disagree with that....it missed the mark big time on my system, and
it took around 155 registry entry deletions manually to get my computer
back....I have more than one user on this machine. Go ahead and use it...I
sure won't anymore.
