AVG and Outlook Express Attachments...

My inbox is filled with text and HTML messages this morning as usual...
However, every single incoming mail message shows that it has an attachment
even if it doesn't. Same with the other PC here and it is regardless of
which e-mail account we are pulling (have 12 or so here...)

It sure is going to make finding a specific e-mail message in my archives
more difficult.

Started looking for the cause... and found it... Apparently, the new AVG
virus scanner option works really well, but Outlook Express thinks that the
"no virus" certification at the bottom of each incoming e-mail is an
attachment.

Only way to avoid the attachment icon is to *not* scan incoming e-mails...
Not a very good option indeed.

Anyone know a way to make this stop other than disabling incoming scans? If
not, hopefully a patch comes out real soon from one side or the other. :)

You have to live with it or remove the scanning.
I've had AVG for years. Yes its a bit of a flaw in my opinion. But
on the other hand, some people think that scanning for viruses is not
necessary for email. If you save an attachment it is scanned, and if
you run it, its scanned then too, is it not.
So maybe turning off the scanning is not so bad.

I was thinking that... So what you are saying is that the attachment can't
be accessed in any way whatsoever without it being scanned after receipt
anyway? That's an option....

Someone else told me:

I'm using AVG 8.0.100 I get as far as Certification but don't see a "turn
off certification" option. I can change the actual text, but not remove the
entire certification text process that I can see... So you may be right.

When I loaded 8.0 I did custom install or something and saw a check box
for email, and unchecked it.
I've also turned off the link scanner. It puts all these little stars
on all my google results and as the mouse glides over them things pop
up. Its supposed to be a validity check of the websites. But some
take forever to resolve that the google results take so long to display.
Gone!!!

To stop emails being 'certified' click on the Tools menu at the top of the
window.
Then click on Advanced settings which will give you lots to play with.
Click on E-mail scanner which will show you tick boxes for checking incoming
mail and also for certifying it.
Remove the ticks to your taste.
Certification is a section within the email set and is where you can change
the text as mentioned above.
