AVG Not Scanning Archives Properly

I have the paid for version of AVG Anti-Virus 2011.

I have it checked to scan archives, but it won't find an infected file
inside a zip archive until I extract all files from the archive and
scan again.

Anyone else who has AVG with this same problem?

No, I haven't asked AVG about this. I have found that AV companies
usually skim read their e-mails at about 3 times their comprehension
level and give me answers that have nothing to do with the question I
asked.

IIRC there are two modules and *each* has a setting for scanning within
archives.

If you can't get good support, you shouldn't be paying them. Get them to
tell you how to set the feature to actually make it work the way you want.

With the free version under Scan Now is the button to change Scan Options.
That leads to Change Scan Settings in a couple of place.
Tick the box for Inside Archives.

I might be the same for the paid version, and if I am correct that only
affects the archive scanning of initiated "on demand" scans and not the
active scan feature.

I'm not using AVG so I can't check.

No, I have it checked to scan archives. The interface on mine is a
bit different. I also have it set to Scan All Files, with the
exceptions of some pics and music files.

I think it's just a software screw up. I'll just have to keep opening
the archive files before scanning.

Why would you not scan music files ?
Malware in a ZIP (RAR, LZF, CAB, etc.) is relatively safe.
A music file could have a payload such as a Wimad trojan.

I don't download files presented to me that I didn't ask for when
downloading an mp3. That's how it would have to be done with
Wimad.trojan. I also only download mp3s from Usenet groups, never
the Web.

Sheeeesh - the alt.binaries.* are chock full of malware !
It would be a good idea to scan media files if downloaded from Usenet.
