AVG and Antivirus 2008

I just removed AVG. I downloaded it to get rid of 'Antivirus 2008'. It
didn't detect it, but it sure did a number on my machine. It slowed
everything down, particularly the startup. AVG was actually worse than
the virus itself.

I did download another program that did get rid of the nasty. I guess
I'm overdue to have my machine ‘tuned up' by my professionals, but in
the meantime, I'm sure glad to get rid of AVG.

What program did you download and install. I have AVG and am new to
it, but am not quite happy.

That's odd, I install and use AVG free for hundreds of customers,(and
encourage them to buy the full ver.)
and NEVER have I gotten one complaint, not one, but of course I am removing
Norton or McAfee internet security suites and compared to that the
PC's run much faster AND AVG usually finds a few virus files too....
I personally don't run an antivirus software, but on occasion will load and
run AVG then uninstall it the next day or so
Again never have I gotten a complaint...

What was your biggest problem with AVG??? other than detection, which I have
found to be very good...
Thanks

The one thing missing since I uninstalled Norton Internet Security and
installed AVG Free is incoming email scanning. It's set to scan
incoming emails and will scan those coming in to Outlook. But I don't
use Outlook for email, I use a program called Forte Agent which
provide very good email as well as Newsgroup Reader.

I cannot seem to get AVG to scan emails coming into Agent.

I dont think any of the main anti virus products are able to get rid of
antivirus 2008, even those that claim to remove spyware. Avg needs to be
installed using custom, and deselecting link scanner.

That's probably a Good Thingâ„¢. You don't need to scan incoming and
outgoing email.

AVG slowed both startup and shutdown on my machine. Evidently it was
set up to scan everything that the startup loaded and all the
shortcuts. I think the same thing happened with the shut down.

I had to disable the email scan before my email program would download
emails from my server. As long as email scanner was active, it did not
allow email download.

AVG also had popup nag screens about every 30 minutes.

Obviously, I don't know that much about AVG. Perhaps I could have
configured it to be less obtrusive if I knew what I was doing. But the
fact that it did not remove Antivirus 2008 made everything else AVG
could do a moot point with me.

I used 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware' I found this on the home page of
Hal-pc (www.hal-pc.org).

Several years ago I used AVG to good advantage. The latest version
seemes to be a real resource hog, with popup nag screens to boot!

I just removed AVG.

How to remove AVG Free Antivirus
http://askabouttech.com/how-to-remove-avg-free-antivirus/
I downloaded it to get rid of 'Antivirus 2008'.
It didn't detect it,

This one will:
Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe
I'm sure glad to get rid of AVG.

Better alternative is:
Avira AntiVir® Personal - FREE Antivirus
http://www.free-av.com/
(The free version won't scan your emails.)

You may wish to consider removing the 'AntiVir Nagscreen'

Consider:
Routinely practice Safe-Hex.

Just a note to Win98 users, Avira AntiVir will NOT work on your 98 machine
so don't waste your time trying it.
I spent 1/2hr getting totally rid of AVG and went to install Avira and got a
runtime error. Avira does not indicate on its home page that it will not
work with Win98, at least not that I could see (no minimum system
requirements stated).

Look here and see if you can find it. Your link shows it but the Avira
ones don't.

I allways start here:
http://www.free-av.com/

It was early this year announced that AntiVir Free would no longer be
available for Windows98 as per 01 July (or was it May ?) 2008.

Question 4

But nevertheless you can hardly find that it is no longer for Windows98.
I have still the latest version for Windows98, but it does not update
any more.
