avg 7 update hint

Hi,

Just in case this helps.

AVG7free lets you have a schedule to do a virus update, but as it's the free
version, only lets you do a very limited schedue.

To save time, going into all the options, create a startup shortcut to this
program... it'll check for an update to AVG, when you start your pc :)

"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avginet.exe"

Cheers,

Steve

Do you knows a similar trick for the AntiVir Personal Edition
from H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH ?
Thanks

The default on mine checks when I switch on and connect to the internet.
Seems to work fine like that.

You maight be intrested in these paths if you use avg7 too.For the first
just make a shortcut on desktop and use the path.Allows a complete scan with
one click and without having to open avg.Second is just the path to put in
your download manager. These worked when i tried avg7 pro when it first came
out so im assuming nothings changed with the paths...
complete Test

"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgw.exe" /TEST=2

Shell Extension Path

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgw.exe /SE

Do you still have the option of doing manual updates instead?

Hi EA - Well, not quite what you asked for, but here's a bookmarklet to show
the date the page was last modified. Maybe that will help?

javascript:alert(document.lastModified)

Thank you for the suggestion but unfortunately it will not be helpful
because one has to visit the page first. I have been looking for a
utility that can quickly check 10-20 links and identify those that have
been modified since the last check...

I don't like you any more.

Hey, I couldn't help it!

The InstallShield krapware is infamous for causing all kinds of mess
and hassle. At least your side-effect wasn't a boring error message.

For those who have not yet installed, the available automatic update
seems to be your install time, shifted through 2 hour windows.

I also had to use the HOSTS file, and point guru.grisoft.com to
another valid server IP when I couldn't get through to update.

PS. If you install over 6.0, it appears to create a key based on your
6.0 key - at least, my friend got the same generated key as me, and we
both had the "universal" 6.0 key that everyone got, before they
started varying it.

It was NOT required to register, and quite honestly, their own forum
is not a great place - doesnt seem to be any involvement from them, so
problems are solved by the other users or just left to fester for ever
more.

Alright, it's free, but a support forum needs at least an "unofficial"
involment of somebody who can actually get some attention for genuine
problems.
