avast searches out more viruses than kaspersky did

Is it normal, I have never used avast before, and my own impression and
the impression of others are that kaspersky is the AV that catches the
most viruse under most circumstances, but avast found six viruses in my
first taste of its ability, kaspersky only found one, is it because
avast is better than kaspersky or is it because avast [produces more
false alarms?

Kaspersky might not have been up-to-date nor have the same settings.
