Avast file size

Is this correct, a file size over 10MB?? Wow! Why the bloat?

Just the way they do it, mine is at 33mb right now.

Resource use is low.

But the beauty is in the size of the updates which is easily handled
when you're on dialup.

Hi,
If you like Avast! (this apply only to free edition) make sure that you
have installed a script defence for yourself.

Is Avast fairly "benign" on install?

And can you check individual files for virus?

I ask about install as Bit Defender raised hell with my windows on install, and
AntiVir 6 works fine. Trouble is, you never know if you have a virus until it's
found by another AV.

Can't speak directly for Win98, but in XP Avast installs an item in
the Context Menu. So, you open Explorer, navigate to your file, and
right click to get Avast's virus check of that file.

Not bad as AVs go.

I had no problems with Avast but BitDefender also works for me. The
uninstall of Avast was pretty clean. I only uninstalled Avast because my
last upgrade of EZTrust AV insisted Avast be removed 'prior' to upgrade.
EZ expires in June and 'it' will be un-installed. I don't think EZ is
worth paying for, especially since they raised the subscription fee. I
may re-add Avast as an additional AV. I also use BitDefender8, MWAV, and
F-Prot for DOS. The latter two are easy on the system but BD8 showed:

20 folders + 256 files
209 keys + 449 values = 658 reg entries
