PPT 2007 to PPT 2003 conversion inflates file size

I have a 10mb ppt 2007 file and need to convert it down to ppt 2003 file.
When I do this the file size is inflated to 101mb. If I understand correctly,
the .jpg files are converted to bmp's when it's converted down, which
inflates the file size. Does anyone know how to prevent this or any options
to make the 2003 file smaller without recreating it?

AFAIK jpegs are not converted to bmps but several other things happen which
will always inflate the size.

1. Anything that can't be rendered in 2003 is converted to an image eg
bevels, the new text effects, smart art
2. The file retains all the information needed to "fix" this if the file is
reopened in 2007
3. pptx files are inherantly smaller than ppt

Apart from not using the new effects I don't think there's a lot to be done
about it.
