Avast error updating on Wednesday morning

I'm using the free version of Avast AV on a Windows XP Home SP2 desktop
computer, DSL connection. When I turned on my computer yesterday morning, I
received a pop-up window from Avast saying it could not connect to the
Internet to update its files. I don't believe I've ever had this problem
before. I was able to manually update the definitions with no trouble. Any
other Avast users experience this yesterday?

I'm running Free AVG under XP/SP2 and I had an AVG error occur on
Wednesday also.

Hmmm... Two different antivirus programs on the same day. I have been
running AVG for nearly a year now, and never saw a problem until Wednesday.

Must just be a coincidence...I hope. ;)

That sort of thing happens when the AV is trying to automatically update/look
for updates and the connection to the Internet is lost for some reason. It's
usually coincidental and transient, nothing to worry about. I've seen this
happen when I'm using my laptop off-line and Avast looks for an update.
