Avast antivirus - how often do updates come out?

O

Oy Vey!!

I've been trying out the free Avast antivirus(on the recommendation of a
poster in this newsgroup), and so far, I like the way it works, especially
the email scanning. But I'm curious: how often do they issue updates? I've
clicked on the antivirus update off the right-click menu from the systray
icon, and each time it says everything is up to date. And on another PC I
have where I run AVG antivirus, I've been able to download 2 updates during
the same time I've been using Avast. Any insight? Thanks.

First, if You have a permanent internet connection, Avast defaults to
automatic check for updates every four hours.
Avast has database updates two...four times a week, and I think that AVG
is the worst av program concerning database updates.

This week, if I remember correctly, Avast has had two database updates
allready, and current is dated 17.7.2003.

Have you updated Avast to 4.0.235?
Current version of the virus database is 0307-0 on 07/17/03.
Updates about every other day but it varies.

To check which update has taken place, go to the homepage of Avast and
look for the latest date and number.

Go to http://www.avast.com/i_kat_69.html the download section and you
can see the latest download!

If i have 2 computers next to one another and run 2 different virus
scanners, one on each, run the update program for each once a day for a week
then test them with some viruses, and scanner "X" picks up all the viruses I
choose to throw at it with only 1 update during the course of the week, and
scanner "Y" downloads 7 updates in that week and picks up on only 95% of the
viruses I throw at it, which is the better scanner?
