Avast anti-virus popup

I have been using Avast! antivirus free home edition, and until now have
found it effective and trouble-free.

I gave in to an annoying daily popup and downloaded the latest version, 4.8.
It seems to work and update automatically as it should, but now every day
when I boot up I get a popup saying that it may be out of date. This is
obviously false.

How can I stop the popup?

In MyVeryOwnSelf, after much thought, came up with this jewel:
The same thing happened to me and this seems to work (so far):

Right-click on the Avast! icon in the lower-right corner of the
screen, and select "Program settings" from the menu.

Then choose "Update (basic)" in the list at the left of the dialog
box.

Then in the "Program" section click on "Manual."

Then click "OK"

and if that doesn't work, post in the avast forums- you'll find some very
helpful folks there.

Thanks for the reply.
Wouldn't doing this defeat the automatic updating? I want to keep that.
