Avast Anti-Virus

I do have an error event 90 that happens periodically that has no
further information available. Far less often that Avast is
used, since my wife uses it every day.

Looks from the Avast! website that there's a newish version that
fully supports vista.

Since I just uninstalled and reinstalled this morning I have only one item
in my log file, but it is like yours. I am sure there are others that don't
get updates and the convenient right click doesn't work.

I downloaded and installed that version and no change on my system. Still
didn't automatically update the files after download. Had to do it manually
again. Will see tomorrow, but I'm not expecting it.

Add me to the list, John. I've been using Vast on three systems and just
about every other day, all three update.

When using Avast take a look at config.nt located in windows/system32. Which
is part of NTVDM (virtual dos manager). Advast adds a line in there that
will cause problems if you install any programs that need dos emulation.
Another side effect is the failed auto update. I've had to uninstall Advast
to be able to install some programs then reinstall Advast.

Looks like some do and some don't. My XP , X64 (same machine) and WinME
update fine every day. Vista doesn't update and after some period of time
if I don't do it manually, a Windows protection warning appears saying the
files are out of date.
Will be interesting to see if the is a common link. Glad all of your work

Avast updates for me on XP x64 and Vista x86 (dual booting). No errors in
the event log in either.

Is your Update Connection set to "My computer is permanently connected to
the Internet" in Avast? It defaults at dial-up modem, maybe a bug in that
regard.

J

John Barnes

Yes it is set to permanently connected on all three partitions. Two work,
Vista does not.

Incidentally, until I was able to get satellite, locally, recently, it
worked just fine with dial-up on XP and X64
