Avast Anti-Virus ?

S

I've been using CA etrust EZ antivirus for a couple of years with no
problems.
Its a good program but they state $10 for annual renewal and then
charge you $20
when its renewal time (once per year).

Just downloaded the free Avast program and installed with no problems.
Anyone using this program? Any problems with virus or trojans since
you've been
using it?

It works flawlessly for me. Wouldn't think of using anything else.

In my opinion the best AV there is: be that free- or non-freeware
software.

Thanks for the responses. Better than I was anticipating. Glad I didn't
spend the $20 to renew the etrust program.

I dumped EZTrust for Avast about a year ago b/c of the size of the
updates. Avast takes about 2 minutes to do it's updates on dialup and
that is at the same time as my email is downloading. I've installed
Avast on many computers for family and friends and no one has had
anything infect their pc.

I'm also glad to read this. It wasn't the renewal cost that upset me with
etrust, it was their recent cheap trick of not allowing people to
(re)download the AV program which they'd already paid for, unless they
spent a few more dollars "insurance" every year. I wrote and told them what
I thought of this ploy and informed them they'd be loosing a customer at
renewal time. Looks like Avast will be downloaded soon.

I have installed this free software on more than 100 computers (for people
using it for personal use).
After some doubts of the users had that a free software would be good,
when they used avast they were amazed.

Avast is on the right track.... AVG was bought by intel.. lets see how that
goes.
But at the time bieng Avast is far better than AVG.

No, I like it. I got fed up with CA too.

I'm using both Avast and AVG. AVG is my everyday protection. On my
Windows ME system, AVG runs so many processes all the time that it slows
the system noticeably overall. I don't dare install any software with
Avast running for this reason -- too many time slices. I think that this
helps it be thorough, but it's too much of a load for my everyday use.
AVG is lighter.

I have trouble understanding the Avast interface, which I find very
complicated. AVG is lighter on its feet and easier for me to grasp. They
both work. My routine is that I use AVG all the time. I use Avast for an
intensive scan periodically. They're both installed. Using a boot
control utility, I keep one or the other loaded, but never both at the
same time. I believe that for what they do, each is an excellent tool.

For various reasons, none of the other free AV programs have proved
usable for me.

I hope this is useful. Is it?

Definitely a lot of options to choose from, but everything seems to be
working right out
of the box as installed (email scans, web scans, system scans, auto
updates, etc.)

No problem at all and I don't regret to have installed it instead of

I've tried AVG, Antivir, and Avast. Avast is, in my opinion, hands-down the
best of the bunch. It recently saved the day for a friend of mine as well.
Go for it.
