Avast and zip files

Can somebody tell me how to configure AVAST free version to scan inside .zip
file? Thanks.
(Maybe Alwil can improve the GUI so things are easier to find.)

Are you talking the on access(background) scan or on demand (double click
on the avast icon).

For the on demand scan, when you click on the drive or folder icon, and
the sensitivity meter pops up, make sure the scan archives box is checked,
and slide the sensitivity over to thorough if it is not already there.

For background scan, just make sure zip is one of the extensions scanned in
customize settings

Yep, but I think you must hack a bit - Here is a text-file I found
(in addition I have added "LHarc" to the list as well :)

If on-access, yes, avast by default doesn't look for viruses in packed
files. However, it can be enabled. Look at the "deftasks.xml" file in
the avast folder - all you need to do to enable scanning of archives
on-access is to add the line

<STANDARD--ScanPackers>EXE;ZIP;MIME;RAR;ARJ;TAR;GZ;CAB;ARC;ACE;ZOO;BZIP2;WinExec</STANDARD--ScanPackers>

after the line

<STANDARD--InvalidEntry>1</STANDARD--InvalidEntry>

When you have saved the changed "deftasks.xml" file, reboot the system
to make the change permanent

Thanks, Lars-Erik.
