Availibility of Office program to all users.

Jim Temple

I recently installed Windows XP and made 3 users
available. One, me, is the administrator. The other two
are limited users. I installed Office97 while logged in
as the administrator. Office is available to me, the
administrator, but the Office installation seems to not
be available to the limited users.

How can I make a program installation available to ALL
users upon installation of a new program??

Many software programs use installation routines that are not "Multi-User aware".
Therein lies the problem. Try placing a shortcut to the program in the All Users account
(C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs). This should make the
program available to all users.

Well, a lot depends on the program & its installation wrapper. For Office,
it's definitely available to all users. Do the icons show up in the users'
start menu? What errors do they get when they try to run the apps?

Note that the first time they run it they may need admin rights - then you
can take it away.

Note also that Office 97 is very old and unsupported now - any chance you
can upgrade to 2003?
