AutoText

Moe Jones

I have lost all my auto text inserts. When I go to the top of the menu and
click on Insert, then I find if I then try to click on from Attention Line
to Closing or even Signature, I find I have no listing from none of them.

I tried to repair and reinstall Word 2003 but found ether one did not work.
I even tried to restore my registry from three days ago.

Does anyone know how I can restore the listings?

This is usually a sign that the Normal.dot template has been replaced
by saving an ordinary document with the name "Normal.dot". Although
most things (styles, etc.) continue to work as before, an ordinary
document doesn't contain any of the out-of-the-box AutoText entries.

After closing Word, use Windows Explorer to find the Normal.dot
template (it will be in the folder listed as the "User Templates"
location in Tools > Options > File Locations). Rename it to something
like OldNormal.dot. Then restart Word, which will build a new
Normal.dot from scratch. If OldNormal.dot contains any customizations,
you can use the Organizer to copy them to the new Normal.dot.
