I manage several WinXP comps, and some of them (10% maybe?) no longer
recognize a blank CD and open the options dialog. Yet the machine next to
it will, so I know it is not the CD. Have not installed/used any smart
cards, and the value of "91" in the registry is there.

Any other ideas?

TIA!!

Bob

One thing that makes that happen is a CD drive that is starting to fail.
Could be the led reader is a little dusty or it is failing. I have a lot of
dead CD's now but the students really don't need them and we can't afford to
replace them anyway so i carry around a spare drive if needed. charlie

Thanks for the idea Charlie, but these are Dell systems, less than 2 months
old. And the bother is that it is only happening on a few (5 or 6 out of
28) comps.

The KB says to check for the autoplay value of 91, and that a memory stick
can cause probs, but we have no memory stix, and the registry entries are
identical, AFAIK.

Thanks again for the response!
