Autoplay Does Not Work

M

Morton

Hi,

I'm running Vista Home Premium. I properly set the AutoPlay defaults for
CDs and DVDs, yet neither disc type plays when inserted. I have to start
them manually .

I got some troubleshoot advice elsewhere:
Click the start button, click all programs, click accessories, then
right-click command prompt. I tried this, but there was no command prompt.

Any help will be appreciated.

Copy the below information to a .txt file:

*******************************************

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000095

*******************************************

Save the file as Autoplay.reg

Double click to run the file. Accept the addition to the registry.

Reboot. Put in the Audio CD or Movie DVD and watch it start correctly.

Hi Richard,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I do not know how to start a .txt file,
and my Vista books have not been any help. In my 10 years with PCs, I've
never had to start a new file thusly. Can you please explain how I
should do it, or refer me to a turorial that explains it.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Steve. Of course, Notepad. It's easy when you know how, and I
didn't know how.
Much obliged.

Highlight, and then copy, the information between the lines of asterisks.

Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories

Open Notepad

Right click anywhere in the white area and choose "paste".

Save the file using "save as" autoplay.reg (note where you save the file to)

Close notepad

Go to where you saved the file. Double click the file to run it.
