Autoplay Problem

Hi.
A few days ago I posted the message below but got no replies and could
find nothing online. I contacted MS support and was told to uninstall
my 3rd party burning software, in my case Roxio Media Creator 9, which
seemed to solve the problem partly. I can now eject disks and explore
shows the proper disk. However no cd/dvd autoplays, SD cards and my MP3
player do. Vista is set to use autoplay for all media and devices and I
have all settings set to "Ask me every time".

"I have an unusual problem with Vista. First of all it won't allow me
to eject discs from my DVD-R drives unless I go to Explorer, right-click
the drive icon and select eject from the menu. After doing this if I
insert a dvd it still shows up as the previous disc in Explorer. For
instance one DVD is a game (Pro Evolution Soccer 6) when I eject this
and insert a movie DVD Vista (and all my programs) still sees the game
and won't play the DVD. Any ideas? I have two internal burners, an
Optiarc (NEC) Ad-7170A, LG HL-DT-St DVDRAM GSA-H42N. I also have an
External Philips SPD3100L. The problem seems mainly to affect the LG
and the Philips. Also I have Autoplay turned on, but nothing autoplays.. "

I seem to have a similar problem but don't even have Roxio Media Creator
installed. It doesn't matter what i try audio CD/game CD/DVD/etc... Autoplay
doesn't work. I have it turned on in the Control Panel ...Autoplay . Did
some searches online and at the Microsoft website and no solution except they
say to turn on "Shell Hardware Detection" in services....which is already on
and set automatic. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

That's the one I menioned as 'Auto insert notification' in
my first posting. The name 'AutoRun' is misleading. Of
course it prevents AutoRun too but it affects more than this.

Burnig software often sets this to 0 to be undisturbed by
media removal/arrival events or maybe because the CDROM driver
saves some polling requests then. This should not be nessecary
anymore on todays fast machines...

I DEFINITLEY HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH AUTOPLAY!! ARGUE!! VISTA :(
I dont have any 3rd party cd burning software bec i cant get the cd to open
& again it doesnt matter what i try audio CD/game CD/DVD/etc... Autoplay
doesn't work. I have it turned on in the Control Panel ...Autoplay . Did
some searches online and at the Microsoft website and no solution except they
say to turn on "Shell Hardware Detection" in services....which is already on
and set automatic.

THE ONLY THING I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO TO GET TO ANY CD I PUT IN MY COMPUTER
IS...
with audio cd the only program i can use to get to the audio cd is Windows
Media Player.
with a cd that was like a data cd, i right clicked on the on the drive and
hit search. then i have to enter random letters then it will show what is on
the cd with that letter in the title.

anytime i try to open ANY disc it asks me to "PREPARE THIS BLANK DISC" and
wants me to create a name for it. then it wants to FORMAT the disc. no matter
if the disc is blank or not

I FOUND A SORTA FIX... MY AUTOPLAY STILL ISN'T WORKING BUT I COULDN'T GET
INTO ANY CDS THAT I WOULD PUT INTO MY DISC DRIVE IT KEPT WANTING TO "PREPARE
THIS BLANK DISC" WELL I COULDNT FIND ANY SOLUTIONS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE
AUTOPLAY... BUT WHAT I DID WAS I STUCK AN AUDIO CD THAT I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT
INTO THE CD DRIVE, AND WHEN IT ASKED ME TO "PREPARE THIS BLANK DISC." SO I
SAID FINE I AM JUST GOING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS, I TOLD IT TO PREPARE THE DISC,
IT SAID SOMETHING ELSE THEN TOLD ME THE DISC IS WRITE PRETECTED AND OPENED
THE CONTENTS OF THE CD, AND EVERY CD AFTERWORDS
