Problem With Vista Defrag

Morton

Hi,

I'm running Vista Home Premium. I have the Vista defrag set to go
automatically on the first day of each month at 9 PM. The settings are
correct on screen. However, it says next scheduled defrag = never, and
the automatic defrag does not occur. I have to start it manually each month.

I do not know what is wrong, nor how to fix it. Any help will be
appreciated.

Thank you,
Morton Linder

Under what account is it set to run.
If as administrator, than try to set to run under NT Authority/System
account.
In Vista home editions there are ( I am afraid intentional ) problems
with passwords in Job scheduler.
System account need not any password.

Hi Whitey,

No, it's not a smartass question at all. My TV repair guy told me once
that many of his repair calls are caused by the TV set not being plugged
into the A.C., or the cable not being attached to the cable socket.

I schedule the defrag for a time when my laptop is on and running.

Thanks,

Go to: Start>Control Panel>System and Maintenance, under Administrative
Tools, got to :Schedule tasks. Drill down through Task Scheduler Library,
Microsoft, Windows and to Defrag. Click on the ScheduledDefrag in the top,
middle box, then click on Enable in the right, middle box.

Hi Larry,

You hit the nail on the head. I followed your advice, and found that the
defrag was "disabled", despite being set to go on automatically on
schedule. Don't ask me why. In any event, I clicked on "enable", and it
became enabled. I am hoping that defrag will now occur as per my schedule.

Thanks a lot for your skilled help.

Regards,

Mort
