Automatically logging off after cloning drive.

I'm trying to clone the 30GB boot partition from my 120GB western digital
hard drive to a new 300GB seagate. Ive tried using 3 versions of ghost and
drive image 6 but no matter what i do it starts to login then automatically
logs off. I have fast user switching and the welcome screen turned off and
the original drive boots fine if i plug it back in. I've tried cloning the
entire drive with and without resizing the partitions.

Im running an NFR copy of XP Pro w/SP2 on an AMD64 3200 w/1GB pc 3200 RAM on
an Asus K8V motherboard. All of the drivers are current.

Ive already tried replacing the userinit.exe file with one from another
computer and the registry entry is correct.

I know this can be done on a Server 2003 machine (because it has happened to
me) but unsure on a XP machine. The problem may be an incorrect system drive
letter rather than userinit.exe. Open the registry via a networked machine,
navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices and delete all values that look like
this: \DosDevices\C

Also you need to have remote registry access enabled on the machine that is
giving you the problem.

So what is really happening.

Are you attempting to 'launch' Ghost from within Windows or boot of the
Ghost bootable floppy disk?

What version of Ghost?

You have a 120Gb HDD it may not be 'accessible' to older Ghost versions.

Same for Drive Image: I think you need version 7.

ANy way: Ghost and DI are now joined at the hip and known as Ghost 9! But
what does that do to help you? NOTHING, but this will.....read on.

Did you initialise the new Seagate?

Perhaps you may find it easier to use the Seatools software, install from CD
[or download it] which is going to help you Initialise, Format, Partition,
Clone and reset the PC: plus is going to be compatible with XP SP2. This is
all handled through a series of questions and answers 'a wizard' which takes
you to a result.

Thank you, that worked perfectly.
