Automatically Going Online Problem

My sister and brother-in-law are using AOL as their ISP. They do not have SP2
installed. Periodically the computer will automatically try to dial online.
They have stopped this by removing all stored passwords. We have used the AOL
spyware and adware detection program and can't find a source of the problem.
There do not seem to be any automatic updates turned on.

Is there a way to find out the name of the task that is active at the time
of the dialup? The AOL program actually starts and then stays at the login
screen stating that a password is required.

Another problem that may be related is that periodically when online an ad
will appear with a window stating that you must click yes to download some
program. When you chick no or close the box it reappears. After about 4 times
it gives up.

Hi Dennis,

AOL's spyware tools are insufficient. Try these:

Adaware www.lavasoft.de
Spybot www.safer-networking.org

This one can help you avoid these programs from being installed in the first
place:
Spyware Blaster: www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

It's almost certainly related to spyware, this article discusses other ways
of troubleshooting it:
