automatically downloading critical updates

I have my PC set up to receive automatic updates. I
noticed that I hadn't received any lately, so I reviewed
my history, and it says the last update I got was October
8. Have there been more critical updates that should have
installed?

That is pretty close to accurate for critical security
updates, at least only minor things have been delivered
down to my SUS (local WUish server) in that timeframe.
You can always manually visit WU using the entry in
your programs menu if you want to check.
