Automatically changing i to I

I have Word 2007, and I am sure in previous versions the autocorrect would
change an i to I, but I am unable to do this in 2007. I have tried in the
Autocorrect options, but that won't let me "add" the rule because of the
spaces and I don't want all of the letter i's to become I's.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Just use â€i†and â€I†without spaces. AutoCorrect does not change your i to I
unless it is the first character in a paragraph or you have a space before it
_and_ you type e.g. a space or comma after it.

Bipbop is saying that it _doesn't_ work the way it used to -- it
doesn't capitalize i by itself.

Is there still an AutoFormat As You Type area in 2007? It would be an
item there.

I understand the description differently - that Bipbop is trying to insert "i
" and "I " with a space after - and you can't - a space as the last character
in the Replace part is not allowed (it's the same in Word 2003). But you can
add "i" and "I" and it works. I tested it before posting.

Are you saying that the automatic capitalization of i has been removed
from Word2007, and if you want it to do it, you have to put it into
the AutoCorrect yourself?

Actually, I am not sure. I remember having removed that AutoCorrect entry in
Word 2003 and earlier but I am quite sure I have not done that in Word 2007.
But I have a Danish Word 2007 whereas all previous versions were English so
that could be the reason.

Automatic change of i to I is a problem when writing in Danish since “iâ€
means “in†so the capitalization is wrong.

The i to I entry is there in my (UK) English language version of Word 2007,
as installed.

The behaviour appears the same as in Word 2003, as you say:

Doing...

blah blah<period><space>i<space>

results in the change.

doing...

blah blah<period><space>i<space><backspace>i<space>

leaves the "i" unchanged in both versions (also as expected, I think).

Automatic change of i to I is a problem when writing in Danish since ´i¡
means ´in¡ so the capitalization is wrong.

AutoCorrect entries are language-specific. Before you open the AutoCorrect
dialogue window, first make sure the current language coding (the one
active at the insertion point in the document window) is the language for
which you want to enter new AutoCorrect entries. In other words, first
check on the status bar that the current language coding is English before
you open the AutoCorrect dialogue window to enter the ´i¡ to ´I¡
replacement pair. In this way, the automatic replacement of ´i" to ´I¡ will
only happen when you are dealing with English texts.

Note that having a Danish version of Word 2007 should not impact this at
all.

Also note that the ´i¡ to ´I¡ AutoCorrect replacement pair is normally
present by default in the original installation of Word 2007.
