Automatic Windows updates not working

Hi,

I am using Windows XP profesional. Automatic update is
not working in my PC though I hv made all required
setting in control pannel--->system-->Automatic update. I
hv tried many option but not getting through.

Also I am not getting windows update icon on task bar.

Can anybody help me to suggest how to make automatic
update operational.

what is it set to

if you click on the icon on the task bar what does it say

if you have it set to download the prompt before installation it will have the icon on the task bar, click on it and it will ask you before installing
