Automatic Updates-I am an idiot

Ok, the little "globes" show up in my tray and tell me
updates are ready to install. This happens frequently and
I install them. My question is what am I updating? Are
the security patches we heard so much about this week
included in these updates or are they unrelated?

Only the most critical updates are downloaded through Automatic Updates. You
can find all types of recommended updates here:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you're concerned about the recent Blaster (or 'Lovesan') virus, then the
patch from Microsoft will be delivered through Automatic Updates (provided
that you haven't already been infected).
