Thanks to everyone for testing Windows Defender over the past few weeks. I
wanted to update the group and let you all know that we still plan on
turning on the Beta 1 to Beta 2 autoupdate function in the future. At this
time, we do not have a set time as to when we will turn on the update, but
will make an announcement before we do.

Once again thanks for testing Antispyware Beta 1 and Windows Defender Beta
2!!

Thanks, Steve--this is a bit of information that several have
requested--glad to hear that we'll have some warning.

Hi,

Du to the frequency of updates in WD, please set a separate Update
mode from WU. In example : WU as "auto load and warn" and WD
as "full auto".

Cheers

Yes, please add a mode where it will automatically download WD definition
updates. I don't like Windows Updates installing without me telling them to,
because sometimes I'm playing a game or something, but WD definitions
auto-install would be nice.

Steve,

I agree with that plan. In general beta2 is a big step to something I would
recommend to non-tech users, but there are a few bugs that need to be fixed
first, like the 0x80004003 error and the "you have not scanned etc."-warning.
We have installed beta1 on 5 customer PC's. They are used to the beta1
problems now, but would be disturbed by the current beta2 bugs.

regards, Willem

I think you can do that now. In settings there's a box to "check for updated
definitions before scanning". I have it checked, and when my last scheduled
scan ran on Friday morning, it smoothly installed to the the latest defs.

Thanks for the heads up, but if AU sees available defs, he DL and
asks for user's choice. (and don't wait for schedule scan)

Cheers

Hmmm....Maybe this is a question of timing. Here is my experience with def
update 1.13.1282.6 last week. I run my scheduled scans at 5am (Chicago
time). The last one was at 5am 2/24 . According to my event viewer:

12am on 2/24 - WU reported that defs 1.13.1282.6 had been downloaded and
were ready to install.
5am - WD engine was updated to 1.1.1186.0
- WD defs 1.13.1282.6 installed
- Scan run
When I got up in the morning, all was done. No action taken on my part. I
only knew about the def update because it had changed on the WD status page.
