In December, when I opened a document created in November 2007 that had
November in the footer, it automatically updated to December. I don't want
that! Agr-r-r! How do I cut that feature off!

Thank you!

Either replace the DATE field you now have with a CREATEDATE field, or
replace the field with plain text.

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/DateFields.htm for more.

I never put the Month/Year in as a field in the first place (at least not
intentionally). How do you keep it as plain text?

I appreciate your help--thanks!!

If you use the Insert > Date/Time dialog and you leave the "Automatically
update" box checked there, you'll get a DATE field. Similarly, if you use
the Alt+Shift+D shortcut, you'll get a field.

To insert as a plain text, uncheck the "Automatically update" box in the
dialog. Or, after inserting a field, click the date and press Ctrl+Shift+F9
to "unlink" it and turn it into plain text of today's date.

To insert a CREATEDATE field that will always show the document's creation
date, use the Insert > Field dialog.

Hi Journey51,

To concert a field to plain text, select it and press Ctrl-Shift-F9.

Cheers

Note that the Insert Date button on the Header and Footer toolbar also does
the same thing as Alt+Shift+D.

To Jay Freedman and Macropod--
Thank you both for your help and support. It was driving me crazy! Now I
know how to get back to plain text. : )

Happy holidays!
