Automatic Update (linking & embeding)

I am using Microsoft Office Professional XP. When linking
and embeding spread sheets and charts from excel to word
documents,both the chart and the spread sheet will not
update automatically. I can get one or the other to
automatically update but not both. I have a Dell unit
with Windows Professional XP with service pack II
installed.I can update using "update now" option but the
chart and the spreadsheet both won't update
automatically.
