Automatic timed saving (update to Macros 9?)

I have the saved autorecovery set for every 5 minutes. Unfortunately, it is
not a reliable backup. My copy of Word crashes from time to time and I have
found that the autorecovered document is sometimes corrupted. Last night, as
I was finishing my work, I pressed "Crtl-S" only to find that the pogram
failed and my work was lost, despite the "auto-recover" feature. I am using
Word for Office XP (i.e., 2002). In my previous edition for Word for Office
2000, I had downloaded a macro from Microsoft called Macros 9 that was
excellent. It allowed me to set the time when Word would save the open
documents as if I were had pressed "Ctrl-S." Unfortunately, that macro does
not work on my new version of Word. Is there any way (through a macro or
otherwise) that I can set up my version of Word to make a true backup at a
specified time interval?
I'm working on my Ph. D. dissertation and this has caused me a big headache.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bob

And you've not yet learned to hit control-S every single time you pause to
think? That habit will serve you better than any macro, I found when
writing mine.

Thank you for your reply. I realize that autorecover is not a true save and
what I want is a true save. Your link brought me to a download for
"saveRemninder.zip" which appears to be the same macro that I installed with
"Macros9.dot. As I mentioned this is what I used to use and considered it
excellent. However, I have spent a lot of time trying to get this macro to
work on my current version of Word, but it wont accept the Macro. Right now,
on my "File" menue, is listed "SaveReminder Options." and it brings up the
automatic save tool you refer to. Unfortunately, it doesn't do anything in
this version of Word. I tried to download your version of
"saveRemninder.zip" to see if it would do the trick. I got an error message
that read, "Acces to C:\Documents and settings...\SaveReminder[1].zip was
denied." I find it incomprehensible that Microsoft hasn't incorporated a
true automatic save function in Word after all these years. In any case, I'm
still looking for a solution so that I can automatically save.

I do save as often as i can remember. I'm looking for something that can
compensate for lapses in my memory and a shortcoming in the MS Word program.

I understand that. The point I'm trying to make is that the best answer,
really, is to train your fingers to hit control-s whenever they are near a
keyboard and have nothing else to do. Your muscle memory will serve you
best--think of it as part of learning to touchtype instead of remembering to
save.

I'm not saying stop your quest for a macro, just trying to give a fellow
academic helpful advice.

There is no reason why the macro should not work with Word 2002. The most
likely explanations are that it is in the wrong start-up folder (check tools
options > file locations > startup) or that you have not set macro
security to trust installed templates and add-ins, or you have another
add-in that is conflicting with it.
