We are running XP Home edition and have just reinstalled the harddrive after
a melt down. How do we do it so that we don't get the welcome screen when we
boot up but just go directly to our Desktop.

When I look in user accounts we have aquired an accoutn called ASP.net which
apparently came in with an update. We also have a guest account but it is
turned off.

Do we have to delete the ASP account?

It really is a pain to have to deal with the password every time

Yes, it is safe to simply delete the ASP.net account.

- Click Start / Run.
- Type control userpasswords2 {OK}.
- Click the user name you wish to use.
- Untick the box that requires users to enter a password.
- Click OK and enter the password when prompted.
- Make a note of the password. This newsgroup is full
of posts from people who forgot their password one week
after automating the logon process . . .

Similar problem... I'm the only user... guest is turned off.
I tuned off both the "fast user switching" and "Use the Welcome
Screen".
controluserpasswords2 box is clear (no checkmark) only my user name
and guest shows again all grayed out, since not checked.

Now I have the logon screen. My name is already in it and I have no
password, so all I have to do is click on it.
Any way to get of that box too, so it goes straight to the desk top.

My desktop pc, does just that. I can't seem to find any differences in
the settings though.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Thank you Christopher,
I did that before and did it again, But I still get the classic log on
screen.
I have no password set up so i just hit enter.
Ughhhhh.
