Automatic Login on Boot Up

G

Glenn

Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 development server that I recently
installed third party software on. As a part of the
installation the machine had to be restarted a couple of
times, hence I chose to provide login details to allow it
to login automatically when required. This worked fine
and the installation completed successfully.

The problem is that the automatic login is still happening
whenever the machine boots, using an Administrative
equivalent login. Big security concern!

I have hunted high and low but cannot find how to turn
this off. This is an obvious security risk and needs to
be fixed asap.

Help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Glenn.

Hi ,

To remove "Auto admin logon" , you will need to edit a value in the
registry.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
Here change the value of "AutoAdminLogon" to 0 to disable this feature.
( 1 enables it)
You might also want to delete the values set against "DefaultUserName" ,
"DefaultPassWord" and "DefaultDomain".

Regards,
Venky.
