automatic horizontal resize oscillation with CRT monitor - why?

Hi everyone,

I was hoping some could help me.

I recently purchased an old NEC-Mitsubishi MultiSync FP1355 22" CRT
Monitor. It works great, however I found an odd thing that happens from
time to time.

The monitor seems to resize itself in the horizontal direction slightly
(by one pixel width) and then comes back into its normal state a few
seconds later. This resize fluctuation is very slight and happens from
time to time. I don't know what's causing it.

Any help would be most appreciated!

cheers,
peter

Very likely, a slight problem with the HV regulation, either in
the horizontal deflection or the anode voltage (the latter, if
this is actually an overall shrinking of the image, not strictly
horizontal). If so, it's likely a load-dependent sort of thing -
do you notice if it happens to track what's on the screen (for
instance, the screen might shrink a little whenever the displayed
image is mostly white, or grow a littler when it's mostly dark?).
