Automatic e-mail address

I have deleted an incorrect e-mail address and entered the correct one in my
contacts list, but when I send mail to the contact, the incorrect e-mail
addresss still pops up automatically when I type the name, and if I don't
look carefully, I end up sending the message to a stranger who has that
e-mail address. How do I delete that incorrect automatic e-mail address from
the system so that I don't have to check so carefully every time I send a
message?
 
If this is the AutoComplete email address that comes up when you start to
type in the address in a To field, you can start to type the address to bring
up the list of possibilities, hit the down arrow to select the one you want
to get rid of and hit the Delete key.
