"automatic dial during background send/recieve" problem

I want Outlook to automatically connect when I open it. To do this I use the
option "automatic dial during background send/recieve". However, it alwys
disconnects immediately after downloading mail. How do I stop it from
disconnecting?
 
You failed to provide enough information for an answer.
Outlook version, mail account type and connection type would be nice to
know.
