Automatic date insertion

Can anyone please help I have a problem!

I currently type letters for work in Windows XP, and save my letter each
time, for instance I create a document dated say 26th November 2004, then
when I return to that document a couple of days later to perhaps amend the
document, it automatically changes the date on the letter (e.g., it would
then change to 28th November 2004). Does anybody know if there is anyway I
can switch this automatic date insertion off?

You didn't specify which application you're using to create these documents.

If you're using MS Word, there's a box to uncheck when you enter the date
format. The box enables/disables the automatic update.
