Even though I've changed the default date to English
U.S.; the computer will automatically go to English U.K.
This affects the date when I type it in a letter...if I
don't space after it and then return it will type my date
as ex. May 6, 2004-05-06

Change the XP default Language locale. It could currently set for UK.

To change the way your computer displays the date

On the Regional Options tab, under Standards and formats, click Customize.
On the Date tab, specify any changes you want to make under Short date and
Long date.

MS Word??

language that you selected.

In the Available formats box, click a date or time format.
