Automatic Copies made when I try to highlight for deletion

When I am working in either my documents or explorer and try to identify
several files I want to delete (holding down the CNTRL key), a copy of those
files is automatically made in the same folder I am trying to get rid of them
from. The only way I've found to get rid of all these files (originals and
duplicates) is to delete them individually. Anyone know why this happens?

You're moving the mouse slightly, dragging the selected files within the
file window.
