Have OEM XP Pro. Copied i386 to CD-ROM. How do you get ASR disk to recognize
CD-ROM when using 6 boot up disks.

Was reading your post when I realised I didnt actually
know what "i386" meant or stood for.
(even though i've come across it heaps)
Had a google just now but thought I'd pop this post
in anyway if you can help with the answer.

i386 contains WinXP files in compressed format. If you want to start,
Winnt32.exe will start XP load. Copy is suppossed to automatically
uncompress any compressed files. Compressed files have a _ in the extension.
So if you have to reload a clobberered file, go to i386.

Used ASR to back all files to another hard drive and got the floppy at the
end. On another computer loaded 1st of 6 boot floppy's, after loaded, F2 ,
loaded ASR floppy, then it asked for the remaining 5 floppy's. After they
loaded, asked for the Win XP CD-ROM. Got message "Not an XP CD_ROM." OK, so
now, how does ASR work.

I have used ASR successfully by booting from the Windows XP CD and
recovering from there. You need the CD anyway as part of the process. I have
never performed an ASR recovery from the 6 floppy set so I do not know about
that. Sorry.

As OS is from OEM, don't have a CD, trying to build one. Tried to use
Seagate Sea Tools to do a bit for bit copy from one drive to another, checked
properties of copy, Disk Full, apparently not a bit for bit copy. Did not
pursue, tried MS backup, doesn't seem very promising as I will have to get a
3rd hard drive in case of disk crash. Will probably go back to Sea Tools to
figure that one out. Thanks.
