Automate "paste match destination formatting"

If one copies a piece of text from one document to another, the pasted text
may come from a text in which the normal style was say 12 point and the
destination was 11 points. In some cases (I'm not sure why) when one does
the paste in the destination, the formatting such as point size from the
origin will be retained. If one wants to keep other formatting such as
formatting such as italics or bold, one is offered the paste option
(indicated by a floating clipboard icon) of having the pasted text conform to
the new text by clicking on the option, "match destination formatting." I
would like to be able to automatically do this with a macro or by changing
the defaults. I don't see how this is possible. Any suggestions. (By the
way, this is NOT the same as "Paste special | unformatted," as this will
strip out formatting such as bold and italics.)
