I used to be able to type a website address and get a link automatically
inserted once I hit Return. Now I just get "HYPERLINK.." then then the web
address without the blue underlining. I've checked my autoformatting
settings and they look fine. Frustrating. John

Press Alt+F9 to switch between display of field codes (what you
see now) and field results.

Press Alt+F9 to toggle from field codes (what you're seeing now) to
field results.

I have tried this and the hyperlinks will never show up as a hyperlink. When
I toggle the fields, Alt+F9, the email information goes away. I have typed
new email addresses and they don't convert to a hyperlink. I have gone
through all of the autoformatting options and made sure that anything with
respect to web/mail links were turned on.

Please help.

The only option that affects conversion of email addresses into
hyperlinks is on the Tools > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You
Type dialog, the one for "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks".
When that option is checked, if you type an address followed by a
space or punctuation, Word will convert it.

When you press Alt+F9 repeatedly, the address should alternate between
the usual blue/underlined format and the field code, which looks like
{HYPERLINK "mailto:[email protected]"}.
