Autofill address with several Contacts folders

Fran Varona

Hello to everyone.

I have Outlook XP, and several Contacts folders. When I start a new mail,
the "autofill address" functionality only search into one of them, not all
of them. Is there any way to configure that?

Thanks in advance,

The "autofill" (as you call it) feature has no connection with ANY of your
Contacts folders. It contains addresses to which you've previously send
mail no matter how they were entered in a recipient field, whether from any
of your Contacts folders or by typing on the keyboard.

Ok. So I understand that the "suggest addresses" feature -excuse me for my
uncomplete knowledge in english, I am spanish- has to be only with
previously sent ones, and the "match names" feature searches in the contacts
folders. I suppose that there is no place to see that "cache of addresses".
Is that true?

Thank you very much for your reply!

And you can have it search any contact folder you have as long as you enable
those folders to be visible to the address book service. Right-click,
choose Properties, select the Outlook Address Book tab, and check the box
labeled "Show this fodler as an e-mail Address Book". Click OK.

Not exactly. The autocompletion cache is in the (usually hidden) folder
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. Its file name matches your mail profile and
its extension is ".NK2". There are two tools that can show your the
content, one commercial and the other free. The commercial one
(http://www.ingressor.com/) will do a lot more than show you the contents
and it handles any type of address in the cache. The free one
(http://www.epute.com/nk2csv/) can display entries as long as they are SMTP
addresses.
